General Elections: Seventh & Last Phase

Over 2-months long general election process is coming to end with the seventh and last phase of campaigning ended on Thursday and voters from 57 parliament constituencies will cast their vote on Saturday.

Highly charged up election campaign run by both the sides, part-in-power and opposition, went around unexpected narratives covering various issues ranging from caste, religion reservation, right to inheritance, gold ornaments and jewellery, citizenship and more.

This time the elections are very much vital for both groups as BJP and its prime minister candidate had openly raised the issues relating to Hindus and Muslims, while the opposition group led by Congress and its leaders more so, Rajiv Gandhi, strongly advocated that his government will roll-back all the decisions of the BJP led government such as Art 370, CAA etc., hinting their support to Muslim groups.

In all, the entire campaign went around the religion, although, the constitution will not permit such campaigns and even Elections Commission could not stop excepting issuing warnings and notices.

Through these elections Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking re-election for the third term, while all through the election process the country is reeling under heat-wave and voter turnout is consider to be low.

Interesting highlight of this election is, the voter turnout in Jammu & Kashmir jumped overwhelmingly in most of the terrorist dominated localities. In the first six phases, the voting percentage was, 66.14%,66.71%, 65.68%, 69.16%, 62.2% and 63.36%. It is significant to say here, that in this election campaign, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is only-one leader, who draw large crowds across the country for his rallies, road-shows, and events canvassing for the candidates of BJP led alliance.
