Single Man, Single Agenda

The entire campaign led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) run on single theme. ‘Elect Modi, once again’. Also, Narendra Modi traveled for 82 days, non-stop, across the length and breadth of this vast country held 206 rallies under scorching heat, besides almost similar number road-shows and events and also he gave nearly 80 interviews to various media organizations, small and big.

A run through of entire campaign shows, as said by a senior journalist who is watching the campaign, there is no challenge faced by Mr Modi from the opposition but the worry is within. It is real challenge for the party to bring the party workers to work under the scorching heat-wave and bringing the voters to the voting booths.

Although, the party leaders were warned by the national leadership about the conditions of heat-wave and how to work, still the voter turnover could not be improved.

Certain narratives also worked against the party, such as, the slogan that ‘winning over 400 Lok Sabha seats this time important to make big constitutional changes’. It was wrongly understood and even opposition alliance took the opportunity and highlighted in their favour. The second issue was abolition of Reservation. As this issue turning vibrant, Mr Modi had to make an announcement that BJP has no intention of ending reservations.

To counter these issues, BJP has to take up the issue of appeasement of minority community, reservations for minorities and basing on religion etc.

While Mr Modi makes his entry into each phase with ‘blanket bombing’ in a macro level, the other leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh etc, played micro management efforts in furthering the impact of the campaign. The observers see that this time, BJP will get seats pan-India. It will open in AP& Tamil Nadu, and improve its tally in Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha and West Bengal.
