A facility to vote-from-home is extended to voters having various disabilities and senior citizen aged 85 years and above for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to the statistics released, there are over 85 lakh senior citizen and 88.4 lakh persons with disabilities are expected to utilize the facility across the country. This facility will benefit seniors citizen more as they have to visit the polling booth under scorching summer, which they prefer avoid due to heavy extended summer expected this year. The summer season has almost started in both the telugu states and may be extended even in the month of June. The polling dates are scheduled between April 19 and June 1.
Although this scheme was implemented earlier, this time the Election Commission (EC) extended the age from 80 years to 85 years in case of senior citizen. The EC also extend the postal ballot facility to media persons who got EC’s authorization to cover the elections. This same is also open to the service persons like security personal, employees having election duty, embassy staff in postings, armed personal away from home towns, etc.
The persons intended to use the facility have to submit Form 12D, either download from the EC’s website or obtain from representative district officer in each of Parliamentary constituency and submit within five days of notification of the polling date. It should be deposited either to the Booth Level Officers or Assistant Returning Officers.
The Voter will receive will receive intimation via sms about the date and time of the officers visit to his registered address for receiving the Vote. Accordingly the Polling officers along with security will visit to the registered address of the Voter sought vote-from-home and complete the process of voting.
Let us hope, the EC officials would have enough machinery and facilities to complete the task to the satisfaction of the Voters.
