Sept 17: Hyderabad Liberation Day

It is now official. September 17 will be celebrated as Hyderabad Liberation Day as per the gazette notification by Union Home Ministry on Tuesday.

Although, each of the political party is giving its own interpretation to the Hyderabad Liberation movement, the Union government in its notification said, the Hyderabad ruled by erstwhile Nizam did not get independence on  August 15, 1947, but it was liberated 13 months later, on September 17, 1948 after police action called “Operation  Polo”.

Through this gazette notification it is clear that the Government of India is decided to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation on September 17.
