Ratan Tata is no more

Tata group Chairman Ratan Naval Tata, passed away on 9th October, Wednesday night hours at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, informed by his family. He was 86. He is survived by his younger brothers Jimmy and Noel and Stepmother Simone.

Known as RNT within the group, he was its chairman till 2012 from 1990 and handed over the mantle to Cyrus Mistry. Unfortunately Mistry was removed from the position in 2016, Ratan Tata took over the responsibility again as the group’s interim chairman. Later the reins fall on Mr Chandrasekharan, who was appointed as the Tata Sons Chairman in February 2017.

Although, RNT retired from the active business, he had firm grip of all the strings of the group including Tata Trusts, which owns 67% stake in Tata Sons. Noel Tata was elected as Chairman of Tata Trusts after the death of Ratan Tata.

Ratan Tata was picked up by JRD Tata identifying his talent as choose him as his successor in 1990. Though faced stiff resistance during early years but later made things easy by his actions and he focused global with major acquisitions like Tetley, Corus Steels, Jaguar and Land Rover. With all these developments, he made Tata’s as International Company with an enhanced stature on the Corporate Map of the World.
