Rise in Sugar output ending Sept 2024

Here is some sweet news. The Sugar production in this season for the first six months has increased, according to Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA).

For the first six months, between October 2023 to September 2024, there is a production of 302.02 lakh tones as against 300.77 lakh tones for the same period last year. As per the ISMA, sugar output has increased in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra where big number of sugar factories exists. In the last season, there were about 187 mills operated and this season the factories increased to 210.

As per the industry sources, the domestic consumption is pegged at 285 lakh tones leaving about 91 lakh tones for exports. While for the whole season, the estimated sugar production is expected to be 320 lakh tones, after considering the ethanol production.
